Golf at River Rock

The crown jewel of the River Rock Communities is the 18 hole golf course designed by PGA Professional - Phil Mickelson.  The course will be located in the Webster Creek Community of River Rock but all property owners will have access to the course.

Each one of the Bear Pen listings on this site includes a sports membership valued at $50,000 which will give the new property owners access to the 9 hole executive course designed by Rick Smith and limited access to the Phil Mickelson designed-18 hole course.

Below I have a brief description of each hole of the proposed 18 hole, Phil Mickelson designed, golf course.

Hole #1 - Par 5

Blue Tee - 532
Green Tee - 510
White Tee - 477
Red Tee - 427

This opening hole will begin right off the back steps of the clubhouse.  With the green reachable in two, this hole lets the golfer get a feel for the course.  The hole will be a slight uphill dog-leg to the left, making a long fade the ideal tee shot.  With bunkers placed on the left and right of the fairway, an accurate shot will serve you well.  The green will be elevated with two bunkers on the left.  This hole gives the golfer an opportunity to birdie/eagle right out of the gate.

Hole #2 - Par 3

Blue Tee - 305
Green Tee - 210
White Tee - 183
Red Tee - 153

This long par 3 is a straight shot from tee box to green.  Golfers will have the option to try to land the green or attempt a bump and run shot.  There are proposed fairway bunkers on the right and one large green-side bunker to the left.  This hole will play shorter than the yardage due to the 65 feet downhill to the green.  A perfect par 3 that demands accurate shots.

Hole #3 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 343
Green Tee - 327
White Tee - 307
Red Tee - 277

With over 100 feet downhill, hole 3 will be a par 4 that is reachable with the perfect tee shot.  But be cautious, 270 yards off the tee box is an existing stream that will swallow many golfers Pro-V 1's.  Leaving your tee shot just short of the stream will give the player a better chance to hit it close and post a birdie.  This hole is the definition of a mountain risk/reward hole.  With a beautiful natural waterfall off to the right, this hole is amazing.

Hole #4 - Par 5

Blue Tee - 553
Green Tee - 520
White Tee - 476
Red Tee - 430

This hole is another downhill hole that will be reachable in two.  A stream follows the right side of the fairway all the way to the green.  The green will have a small pond right-off the right side.  A small bunker to the front left will encourage golfers not to leave it short.  The fairway of this hole crosses the fairway of hole 15, making it truly unique for a mountain course.

Hole #5 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 410
Green Tee - 380
White Tee - 350
Red Tee - 310

This par is another down hill hole with a slight dog-leg to the left.  The tee box will be right off the back of hole 4 with the pond to the golfers right.  Players must carry the ball over a stream and a couple fairway bunkers to be in the best position to put up a small number.  A safer play is to lay up to the right side of the fairway and try to approach the green from the right - leaving yourself with a reasonable chip.  This hole will make the golfer earn his par.

Hole #6 - Par 3

Blue Tee - 188
Green Tee - 162
White Tee - 138
Red Tee - 108

This par 3 will play almost level with just 18 feet uphill.  The easiest hole on the course still requires an accurate shot.  Players will have to hit over a stream and two front-side bunkers to land the green.  With a stream hugging the back left hand side of the green,  accuracy is the key to making a low score on this hole.

Hole #7 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 440
Green Tee - 377
White Tee - 340
Red Tee - 276

Hole 7 is a long par 4 that will put even great golfers to the test.  A errant shot here or there will have players scrambling to make bogey.  The green is guarded by three bunkers: one to the left, right, and off the front.  An accurate tee shot will put golfers in the best position to make par or better.

Hole #8 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 372
Green Tee - 343
White Tee - 283
Red Tee - 243

Another downhill hole that is reachable in one awaits golfers.  Another risk vs. reward hole presents itself.  The slight dog-leg to the right has water everywhere.  A stream runs up the entire right side of the fairway and a stream guards the front of the green.  Even if you were to make it over the stream in front, you better have used enough club to carry over the bunker behind the stream if you want to put down that low number.  A tee shot to the left of the fairway will serve the golfer well, making for an easy second shot to the green.

Hole #9 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 532
Green Tee - 510
White Tee - 477
Red Tee - 427

Hole 9 will play uphill but only by 10 feet.  The player will have a slight dog-leg either left or right - depending on the selected tee box.  Bunkers are scattered across the fairway but are only in play for a very short drive off the tee.  The green will have one large bunker to the right, encouraging players to try to land the ball to the left.  Hole will play relatively smooth unless you find yourself in the sand.

Hole #10 - Par 5

Blue Tee - 613
Green Tee - 553
White Tee - 533
Red Tee - 457

This hole will separate the great golfers from the good golfers.  The hole will play downhill 86 feet but don't think it is a reachable par 5.  Long hitters will have an advantage on this hole.  A ravine bisects this hole at around 350 yards off the tee.  Anyone daring to try to land the green in two will have a lot of water waiting on their ball.  A large pond will hug the right side of the fairway and green.  A stream hugging the back of the green will swallow any long approach shots.  A very long accurate shot is required to reach this green in two.  This hole will put even the best golfers to the test.

Hole #11 - Par 4
Blue Tee - 350
Green Tee - 313
White Tee - 283
Red Tee - 250

Unlike the downhill par 4's, this par 4 is not reachable in one due to the  almost 75 feet uphill to the green.  A stream follows the entire right side of the hole.  Players keeping it left would have a wide open fairway to land on.  No bunkers are in play until you get closer to the green.  Two bunkers will be in the fairway but will seem closer to the green due to the uphill climb.  A bunker will be hugging the front left side of the green.  A long shot will eliminate all the bunkers from play due to the landing area behind the green.  Number one rule for this hole - don't leave it short.

Hole #12 - Par 3

Blue Tee - 195
Green Tee - 188
White Tee - 172
Red Tee - 155

This straight downhill par 3 is one of the best chances for a player to post a low number during the round.  The hole will play shorter than the yardage indicates due to the elevation drop.  The green runs off on every side so an accurate shot is essential but landing it a little short may be the smartest play.  Make your birdie here because the next hole definitely won't give as much of an opportunity.

Hole #13 - Par 5

Blue Tee - 565
Green Tee - 537
White Tee - 500
Red Tee - 477

This long Par 5 will put golfers to the test.  The tee shot will have to carry over two small streams and a couple fairway bunkers to be in the ideal position.  Players may choose to hit left of the bunkers but that would make the hole very long.  The second shot will be a very hard approach.  A ravine sits 90 yards off the front of the green making the golfers hit an accurate shot to lay up in-between the ravine and the green.  The green is very tricky with roll offs on every side and a small bunker to the front right.  Players leaving this hole with par should be happy with their play.

Hole #14 - Par 3

Blue Tee - 200
Green Tee - 180
White Tee - 150
Red Tee - 117

This straight downhill hole gives the player a chance to make up a stroke.  With no bunkers on this hole, it makes the player feel like he/she can really go for it.  Players should make sure they hit it fairly straight to keep away from the treeline creeping in on the fairway.

Hole #15 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 456
Green Tee - 427
White Tee - 403
Red Tee - 357

This par 4 will play like a par 5 for most golfers.  With a slight dog-leg and the 58 feet uphill, this hole plays longer than the yardage indicates.  Players will hit their tee shot over the crossing fairway of hole 4.  Players wanting to get the best approach shot, should aim for the left hand side of the fairway.  Players will have a great approach shot if they manage to get in the fairway while escaping the fairway bunkers.  The green will have a very long false front that will have many players watching their ball come back to them.  This hole will put golfers to the test.

Hole #16 - Par 5

Blue Tee - 555
Green Tee - 530
White Tee - 497
Red Tee - 450

This par 5 will be very difficult to reach in two.  Players will have to carry over various bunkers to reach the desirable landing area.  If the golfer manages to hit that perfect tee shot, he/she will have to hit an even better approach shot.  The green will be elevated with bunkers on the left, right, and back.   This hole will offer some spectactular views while players are attempting to get that low number.

Hole #17 - Par 3

Blue Tee - 188
Green Tee - 167
White Tee - 160
Red Tee - 133

This straight par 3 hole will make the players pay if they do not hit an accurate tee shot.  With two bunkers guarding the front and one bunker to the left, the green on this hole demands accuracy.  The green rolls off the back so any long shots will find themselves in the rough.  The right shot with the right club will give golfers an opportunity for a birdie.

Hole #18 - Par 4

Blue Tee - 467
Green Tee - 427
White Tee - 383
Red Tee - 327

The last hole on the course will be a long uphill par 4 that will put the players to the test yet again.  The green will be located right off the back of the clubhouse.  Players will benefit from a long straight tee shot and a long accurate approach.  The green will be seperated into two pin areas by a small valley in the green.  This green will make it essential for golfers to hit an accurate shot to green.
